The saree is the most well-known Tussar silk product, but it's also used as a base for handicrafts, furnishing fabrics, and stitched garments. Tussar silk has a finer texture than cultivated Bombyx or "mulberry" silk, but its fibres are shorter, making it less durable. India is the world's second-largest producer of Tussar silk, with tribals tending to the only producer of Indian Tussar. Much of it is made in West Bengal's Bhagalpur, Bihar, and Malda districts. Tussar silk is also utilised in the Pattachitra and Kantha stitching of Odisha and West Bengal. Tussar silk is also produced in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
